ABOUT

ABOUT

"The Old Stable is lovely.  Gorgeous colours with a peaceful atmosphere - soon becoming our 'home from home! "

Helen Simmonds

This attractive recently renovated holiday cottage, which was once a stone stable, stands in the grounds of the owners' home, located in the tiny Somerset hamlet of Ilford, on the outskirts of the lovely market town of Ilminster, close to the East Devon and Dorset borders.    Within very easy reach of the M5, A358 and the A303, it is a perfect spot for short break by itself, or en route to the deeper West Country.  Two and a half hours drive from London, one hour from Bristol and 20 minutes from Taunton.

The entirely ground floor accommodation comprises: Open plan living/dining/kitchen area featuring wood burner, underfloor heating, Freesat TV,  WiFi,  electric easy clean hob, electric oven, microwave, dining table and four chairs, two seater sofa and two comfy chairs.   Two bedrooms: one room has a king-size bed and the other is a twin room.  Wet room with shower, toilet, sink, grab rails and shower seat. The accommodation is very flexible and can be adapted

according to number of guests in your party and their individual abilities.

Patio with sitting-out area, furniture and storage.  Parking (2 cars).  Cycle store. Welcome pack. Wheelchair accessible. No smoking in the cottage or on the patio.  Well behaved dog welcome.   Use of owner’s large garden, orchard and young woodland for walking.

There are a number of walks from the doorstep and we are within easy reach of the Mendip Way, Ham Hill Country Park, several National Trust properties including Barrington House, Montecute and Lytes Carys.   Lyme Regis is a 25 minute drive away, with Charmouth, West Bay, Seaton and Sidmouth a little further on (as well as the lovely town and beach at Sidmouth it is the also the home of the famous Donkey Sanctuary and the Assisted Donkey Therapy Riding Centre).  The town of Glastonbury is only a 40-minute drive away, with its 14th-century tower dominating the landscape of Glastonbury Tor.  Yeovilton Air Museum, Herstercombe Gardens and Haynes Motor Museum are also popular attractions within easy reach.

For those with limited mobility:

The property was built around the needs of a young lady with Retts Syndrome.  It is wheelchair friendly, has

wheelchair friendly floors in the living area and twin room.  It has a ramp on each side of the front door and level access from the patio to the parking area.  It has a good size wet room and a shower commode is available for use, as well as bed bumpers.  A hoist can be hired from a local company if required (additional cost).
